Terms of Use

Book Tanuk, by Tellwright Multimedia LLC. Effective date: [OWNER: the effective date, for example the day these pages go live].

These terms are the rules for using Book Tanuk. We have kept them short and plain. Please read them, because by creating an account or using Book Tanuk, you agree to them.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Tellwright Multimedia LLC ("we", "us"), the company that makes Book Tanuk. They cover the Book Tanuk app for iPhone, iPad and Android, the web pages that show lists families share, and Book Tanuk's pages on our website, tellwrightmedia.com.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep about you and your family and how we use it. Please read it with these terms.

2. Who can use Book Tanuk

3. Your account

4. Families and roles

A family is one shared library. The person who sets it up is its owner. Everyone in a family can see everything in it, as the Privacy Policy explains. What each person can change depends on their role:

The owner can't leave the family. Anyone else can leave at any time. Books and other things you add to someone else's family stay with that family if you leave.

Important: until a planned update lets owners hand a family to someone else, deleting the owner's account deletes the family's library for everyone in it.

5. Using Book Tanuk without an account

You can use Book Tanuk without an account. Your library is then kept only on that phone. We don't have a copy. So it is lost if the phone is lost or reset, or the app is deleted. (On iPhone and iPad, the phone's own backup may hold a copy.) Inviting family and sharing links need an account. You can create one at any time, and your library is then saved to it.

6. What you add, and the permission you give us

8. Fair use

Please use Book Tanuk the way it is meant to be used. Don't:

9. Book details and covers

Book details and covers come from Open Library, a free public catalog run by the Internet Archive, and from what families type in. They are sometimes wrong or missing, so check anything that matters to you, such as the ages a book suits. Covers are the work of their publishers and artists, and Book Tanuk shows them only to help you recognize your books. Book Tanuk is not part of Open Library.

10. The family plan

This section applies only once we offer a paid family plan. Nothing in Book Tanuk costs money yet. Before the plan starts, we will update these terms and tell you.

11. Shopping links

Later, some wishlist books may have links to buy them from Bookshop.org. We would earn a small commission if you buy through one. Each such link will be labeled where it appears. Purchases happen on Bookshop.org, under its own terms. There are no shopping links in Book Tanuk yet.

14. Our responsibility to you

We work hard to keep Book Tanuk running and your library safe. But we can't promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of mistakes, or that information will never be lost.

Keep your own copy of anything important: in the app, Settings, then Export as a spreadsheet.

As far as the law allows, Book Tanuk is provided as it is, without promises beyond the ones in these terms. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, or that come from events outside our reasonable control. If we are responsible for a loss, the most we pay for all claims together is US$50, or what you paid for Book Tanuk in the 12 months before the claim, if that is more. This limit doesn't apply to loss caused by our negligence (our carelessness). None of these limits apply to anything the law doesn't let us limit, such as fraud, or death or injury.

Your consumer rights come first. Consumer laws give you rights that a contract can't take away. Examples are the guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law and New Zealand's Consumer Guarantees Act, and consumer protection laws in Canada (including Quebec) and in US states. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

15. Which law applies

If something goes wrong, please write to us first. Most problems can be sorted out quickly.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington and the federal laws of the United States. Disputes go to the courts of Lewis County, Washington, or to a small claims court where you live.

If you live outside the United States, you keep the protection of your local consumer laws that a contract can't take away. You can also bring a claim in your local courts.
