Delete your Book Tanuk account
This page is for people who use Book Tanuk, the app by Tellwright Multimedia LLC. It explains how to delete your account, in the app or without it, and exactly what is deleted and what is kept.
If you set up a family that other people use
Deleting your account also deletes your family's library for everyone in it. Your co-parent, caregivers and viewers lose every book, child and photo in it. This is because a family can't yet be handed to someone else. A planned update in early 2027 will let you hand your family to a co-parent before you delete your account.
Until then, if someone should keep the books, they can save a copy first: in the app, Settings, then Export as a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet doesn't include photos.
Delete your account in the app
There is nothing to buy in Book Tanuk yet, so there is no subscription to cancel first.
- Open Book Tanuk and go to Settings.
- Under Account, tap Delete account.
- Read the list of what will be deleted.
- Type DELETE, then tap Delete my account.
You need an internet connection. The deletion happens straight away, and the app says "Your account was deleted." If you are offline, or something goes wrong, nothing is deleted and the app tells you.
Ask us without the app
You don't need the app, or to install it again. Email support.booktanuk@
- We reply to that address to check that the request is yours. Once you confirm, we delete the account within 7 days and email you when it is done.
- When it is done, if Book Tanuk is still on one of your phones or tablets, open it and go to Settings, then Remove everything from this device, or delete the app. Otherwise your library may stay on that phone.
- If you signed in with Apple and chose Hide My Email, your account's address is a private one from Apple, often ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com. To find it on your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple, then Book Tanuk (Apple explains this in Manage your apps with Sign in with Apple). Put that address in your email. We write to it, Apple forwards our message to you, and you reply to confirm.
- If you can't reach the email address on the account any more, tell us, and we will find another way to check that the account is yours.
What is deleted
When you delete your account, at once:
- Your account. You are signed out, and the account can no longer change anything, or open any family's books, children or photos.
- Every family you set up, with everything in it: its books, children's nicknames, first names and birth years, notes, tags, places, wishlist, gift claims (with the names relatives typed), view-only links and invitations. Its cover photos can no longer be opened (see below for the files). Its links stop working at once. This happens for everyone in the family: it leaves their phones when each one next connects.
- Your place in families someone else set up. You leave them, and the name those families knew you by becomes "Former member". Links and invitations you made there stop working. In a family you left before, your name stays as it was. Email us to have it removed.
- Invitations. Invitations you made that nobody has used, and invitations waiting for your email address, stop working. Your email address is removed from invitations sent to you or used by you.
- On the phone you used: your families, cover photos and sign-in are removed. The phone may also keep its own temporary copies of photos you took or picked, of files you imported and, on Android, of the last file you shared, until the app is deleted or the phone clears them. On your other phones, your families leave when each phone next connects. To be sure, sign out there too.
What is kept, why, and for how long
- Hidden copies of deleted families. They stay on our server, where no one can open their books, children or photos, not even the people who were in them. We are adding an automatic step that removes them for good 30 days after deletion. Until it runs, they stay hidden.
- Your sign-in record. Our server provider, Supabase, keeps your email address, your name if you gave one, a scrambled form of your password (or your Apple or Google sign-in details) and your recent sign-ins. It can no longer change anything or open any family's books, children or photos. We are adding an automatic step that removes it. Until it runs, it stays, and the same email address can't be used for a new Book Tanuk account; if you want that sooner, email us.
- Cover photos. Photos of book covers stay in our private photo storage. No one can open the photos of a deleted family. We are adding a step that removes them.
- What you added to someone else's family. Books, children, tags and cover photos you added to a family someone else set up belong to that family, and stay with it. So do gift claims you made there in the app, with any name you typed.
- A record that the account was deleted: its account ID and the dates, with no email or name. We keep it to show the deletion was done.
- Backups. Our server keeps a daily backup of its database for 7 days. Anything still on our server, including the hidden copies above, is in each new backup. Once something is removed from our server for good, the last copy of it leaves the backups within 7 days. Photos are not in these backups.
- Your iPhone or iPad's own backup. iCloud or computer backups made before you deleted your account still hold the library and cover photos that were on that device. They stay until those backups are replaced or deleted. We can't reach them. On Android, Book Tanuk is not in backups.
- Logs. Supabase keeps logs of requests and sign-ins, with IP addresses and device details, for up to 7 days. Cloudflare, which delivers our web pages, keeps its own records under its privacy policy.
- Crash reports carry no names, emails or book titles, are not linked to your account, and are deleted after at most 90 days. Email records of our sign-up and password emails (once Resend sends them) are kept by Resend for 30 days.
- Your emails to us, including your deletion request, are kept as long as we need them to show that we did what you asked.
- Apple and Google. If you signed in with Apple or Google, they keep their own record that you used Book Tanuk. To remove it, on an iPhone or iPad open Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple, choose Book Tanuk and follow the steps to stop using it. For Google, see Google's help on links between your Google Account and apps.
The Privacy Policy has the full details.
Leaving a family instead
If you only want to stop being part of a family someone else set up, you don't need to delete your account. In the app, go to Settings, tap the family's name, then Leave this family. You need an internet connection.
- The family's books leave your phones. To come back, you need a new invitation.
- The family keeps everything you added to it.
- Your name stays in the family's records, as someone who left. Deleting your account later doesn't change it. If you want it removed, email us.
- If you were a co-parent, the links and invitations you made there stop working.
The person who set up a family can't leave it. A family's owner can also remove someone, which works the same way.
Deleting a book, a child or a photo
When you delete a single book, child, tag, place, gift claim or link, it disappears from the app and from shared lists at once. A hidden record of it, with its details, stays on our server and on the family's phones until the whole family is removed.
To remove a detail everywhere, such as a child's first name or a book's notes, clear it in the app first. Then delete the item. Clearing a detail replaces it on our server and on the family's phones. Or email us, and we remove it for you.
Using Book Tanuk without an account
If you never created an account, your library is only on your phone and never reached our server. To delete it, in the app go to Settings, then Remove everything from this device, or delete the app. On an iPhone or iPad, a copy may also be in the phone's iCloud or computer backup until that backup is replaced. Book lookups you made went to Open Library, without any account or family details.
