Book Tanuk is made by Tellwright Multimedia LLC.
Adding books
Open the Library and tap Add books. You can:
- Scan a barcode: point the camera at the barcode on the back of the book. Book Tanuk looks up the title, author and cover.
- Scan a stack: scan many books in a row, then check them all at once.
- Search: find a book by its title or author.
- Photograph the cover: for a book without a barcode, or one the catalog doesn't know.
- Type it in: enter the details yourself.
If you may already have the book, Book Tanuk tells you before adding it again. Book details come from Open Library, a free public catalog, so they are sometimes missing or wrong. You can edit any book.
No signal? You can still add books. Book Tanuk looks up their details when you are back online.
Children and their shelves
Add each child in the Kids tab. A child needs a nickname, which is what shared lists show. A first name and a birth year are optional. Everyone in your family can see them, and a link shows the first name only if you choose that. Then mark which children each book is for, and each child gets a shelf of their own.
Sharing with your family
To invite someone, you need an account. Go to Settings, tap your family's name, then Invite someone. Choose what they can do:
- Co-parent: full access to books, children and sharing. Only the owner changes roles.
- Caregiver: adds and edits books, but can't delete anything or change children. Good for grandparents and sitters.
- Viewer: can look but not change anything. Good for a teacher.
Book Tanuk gives you a link and a code to send from your phone. They work once, for 7 days. The person installs Book Tanuk, signs in, and joins with the code.
Everyone you invite sees the whole family library: books, notes, where books are kept, your children's nicknames, first names and birth years, and the names relatives type when they claim a gift. Only invite people you trust with that.
Sharing a list with a link
A view-only link lets anyone see a list in a web browser, without an account. Open the Library, a child's shelf or the Wishlist, tap the share button at the top (Share, print or export), then Share a link. You choose what the link shows and when it ends. Owners and co-parents can make links.
Anyone who has the link can see that list and pass it on. To stop it, go to Settings, then Sharing, and tap Turn off. The list stops showing as soon as your phone is online.
The wishlist and gifts
Add books you would like to the Wishlist. Share the wishlist with a link, and relatives can tap "I'll get this one" so nobody else buys the same book. They can type a name, such as "Grandma". Everyone in your family sees that name in the app. Other people with the link only see that the book is taken.
When the book arrives, tap We have it now to move it into your library.
Printing and spreadsheets
From the Library, a child's shelf or the Wishlist, tap the share button at the top, then Print or save as PDF, or Export as a spreadsheet. To bring books in from a spreadsheet or a Goodreads export, go to Settings, then Import from a spreadsheet or Goodreads.
Using Book Tanuk without an account
You can start without an account. Your library then lives only on that phone: we have no copy, and it is lost if the phone is lost or the app is deleted. (On an iPhone or iPad, the phone's own backup may hold a copy.) Inviting family and sharing links need an account.
To keep your library, create an account in Settings. Everything on the phone, photos included, is then saved to your account.
Moving to a new phone
Install Book Tanuk on the new phone and sign in the same way as before (Apple, Google, or your email and password). Your family's library, children and cover photos come back.
If you use Book Tanuk without an account, create an account on the old phone first, so your library is saved. Then sign in on the new phone.
Signing out
Signing out removes your family's library from that phone. It stays in your account, and comes back when you sign in again. If some changes haven't reached our server yet, Book Tanuk tells you before you sign out.
Leaving a family
To leave a family someone else set up, go to Settings, tap the family's name, then Leave this family. Its books leave your phone. The family keeps the books you added. To come back, you need a new invitation. The person who set up the family can't leave it.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings, then Delete account. Read the list of what will be deleted, type DELETE and tap Delete my account. You need an internet connection.
Until a planned update lets you hand your family to someone else, deleting the account of the person who set up a family also deletes that family's library for everyone in it.
You can also ask us to delete your account without the app. The Delete your account page explains both ways, what is deleted and what is kept.
Your privacy
Book Tanuk has no ads, no tracking and no analytics tools of our own. We never sell your information. On Android, Google's barcode reader sends Google its own usage statistics. The Privacy Policy says exactly what we keep, who can see it and for how long.
You can ask us to see, correct, copy or delete the information we hold about you. Write to support.booktanuk@
You can make a copy of your library yourself: Settings, then Export as a spreadsheet. If you have a privacy complaint, write to us first. The Privacy Policy explains how we handle requests and complaints, how quickly we answer, and which privacy regulator you can go to.
Reporting a problem with a list
If you were sent a list, a name or a photo that shouldn't be there, or that uses your work or your details without permission, email support.booktanuk@
Paying for Book Tanuk
There is nothing to buy in Book Tanuk yet. An optional family plan is planned for 2027. Before it starts, this page will explain how to manage it, cancel it, restore a purchase and ask for a refund.
